Tanner Thorson Wins Trophy Cup Finale at Thunderbowl Raceway

Thorson turns a 15th place start into a Trophy Cup win

Tanner Thorson won the 50 lap Trophy Cup finale at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, California, after starting 15th. Jett Barnes finished second and Tanner Holmes third in a race repeatedly interrupted by cautions and red flags. The finish put Thorson at the front of a field that saw major changes in the lead as drivers navigated the 1/3 mile dirt oval.

The early order changed quickly. Caeden Steele started from the front row alongside Robbie Price, but Steele was sent back a row after jumping the start. Tim Kaeding and Bud Kaeding then flipped in turn one, bringing out the red flag. Once racing resumed, Price moved from the bottom lane to the top and took the lead.

Dylan Bloomfield challenged Price with 38 laps remaining, sliding past him into turn three. The pair made contact and bounced off the wall, with their wheels lifting as they exited turn four. Price kept moving, and the incident brought out a caution. Tanner Carrick took the lead after the restart, but a stalled car in turn four triggered another caution and Price returned to the top spot.

A changing lead through a disrupted race

Price’s stay at the front ended with 37 laps to go, when he headed to the infield without a caution. Carrick inherited the lead, then Steele climbed the wall and flipped, bringing out another caution. Further interruptions followed, including an incident with a car upside down and a flip by Justin Sanders with 29 laps remaining.

Thorson made his move after the next restart, sliding past Carrick into turn one. He held the lead through another caution at 17 laps to go. The late stages still brought a major interruption: with four laps left, two cars flipped just ahead of the leaders, and officials stopped the race with a red flag. On the restart, Barnes passed Carson Macedo for second while Thorson opened a gap and secured the win.

Barnes started 14th and finished second, while Holmes climbed from 10th to third. Landon Brooks completed the top four after starting 22nd. Justin Peck rounded out the top five. Carrick, who led during the middle portion of the race, finished 16th; Price ended 22nd after losing the lead, and Bloomfield placed 18th.

The finishing order shows how much the race shifted from its opening lineup: Thorson, Barnes and Holmes all finished ahead of the drivers who started on the front row. The string of stoppages and changing leaders made the final restart a decisive moment, with Thorson keeping control and Barnes taking the runner up spot.

Qualifying and preliminary races

Daison Pursley set the quickest time in the first qualifying group, completing two laps in 12.873 seconds. Carson Macedo was next at 12.889, followed by Barnes at 12.929. Thorson qualified fifth in that group with a 13.031 second lap, then won the main event from 15th on its starting grid.

Bloomfield won Heat 1, Chance Grasty took Heat 2, and Bud Kaeding won Heat 3. Bloomfield also won the 25 lap B Feature, with Dominic Gorden and Carrick joining him as the first three finishers. Price and Steele finished fifth and sixth in that event.
